Unregister and Remove Bad Codecs and Filters

GSpot is great tool to have. It can be used to find out if the file you are attempting to play does actually contain DivX video. Also, you can find out whether the geniune DivX decoder filter is being used to decode DivX videos and whether or not any other filters are affecting the rendering process.

You can also use it to view the list of all the codecs and filters you have on your computer. It shows in details what you have and also some of the bad codecs and filters. Any filter highlighted in RED is supposed to be bad. You can go through the list and look for them if you have any. Check their properties and you will see the location. You can go there and delete it!

To register and Un-register:

• 1. Download the beta version of GSpot v2.52 here.
• 2. Open GSpot and Click "Options"from the menu selection and select "Settings" 
  
  
   
• 3. The Settings window will open. Make sure to check the box "Expert Mode: enable codec management ..."and click "OK" once done.
  
  
   
• 4. Back now at the main GSpot window, click on "System"from the menu and select "List Codecs and Other Filters" 
  
  
   
• 5. Once the list of all codecs and filters window opens up, MAXIMIZE it:
  
  
   
• 6. All of your codecs and filters that are installed on your computer can be found here. You can register and un-register most of them. Here is an exemple on how to un-register a codec. Say you are looking for the LPCM codec by Moonlight Audio Decoda. You can sort the list by name and look for it or if you know the name of the driver, you can sort it that way as well. Once you find it, right-clickthe file and select "Un-register Filter" as shown below : 
  
  
   
• 7. If un-registered successfuly, you will see the below screen:
  
  

NOTE: You can follow the same steps to register any codec or filter you've un-registered before.
