The following rules apply to DivX® protected premium content from Hollywood studios and compatible DivX Certified® devices (DVD players, digital televisions, etc.). Hollywood studio movies sold from DivX VOD partners are protected in order to allow you to buy transferable digital movies as well as maintain the copyright owners’ rights.
In order to transfer your DivX VOD movie to play on your TV or on the go, you need to make sure you have a DivX Certified device and you’ll need to register your device. An easy way to figure out if you have a DivX Certified device that can play purchased Hollywood movies is by the DivX VOD registration code that you retrieve from the menu of your device. All DivX VOD registration codes that are 10-digits in length are Hollywood studio compliant. Another way to determine if your device can play DivX protected premium content is to look for one of the ‘DivX Cinema’ logos on your DivX Certified device as seen below.
Rules pertaining to playback on a DivX Certified device:
- 1. The maximum number of times a single DivX Certified device can be registered is two times per year. This means if you sell or give away your device, only one other person can register the device in the same in the same 12-month period.
- 2. If you no longer own a previously registered device or have more than the maximum of five devices to register, you can de-register a device. There is no limit to the amount of times you can complete a verified de-registration of a DivX Certified device, which occurs when the de-registration code for a DivX Certified device is entered during de-registration of the device.
- (NOTE: If your device does not contain a de-registration code, it will not be possible to complete a verified de-registration. You will only be able to complete an unverified de-registration.)
- 3. You can complete an unverified de-registration of a DivX Certified device once per year and three times per lifetime. Unverified device de-registration occurs when the de-registration code for a DivX Certified device is not entered during de-registration of the device.
