What is the deregistration code on a DivX Certified® device?
The deregistration code is an 8-character code that will allow you to deregister a DivX Certified device from your account via the DivX Player’s DivX VOD Manager. Your device’s deregistration code can be found on its on-screen menu. For step-by-step instructions on how to deregister your device, take a look at the FAQ on this topic by clicking here.
Why would I want to deregister my DivX Certified device?
You’ll want to deregister a device if you need to make room for another device in your DivX Account. Remember, that a maximum of one computer and five DivX Certified devices can be registered to each DivX Account. So, if you were to sell or give away your DivX Certified device, or if you no longer use the device to watch your purchased DivX VOD content, then you can deregister the device in order to free up a registration placement for new devices in the future. The new owner will be able to register the device under their DivX VOD account to enjoy the DivX VOD content they purchase. What if I can’t find a deregistration code on my DivX Certified device?
An easy way to tell if your DivX Certified device will have the 8-character deregistration code is if it has a 10-character Registration code (rather than an 8-character Registration Code). If you have an older-generation DivX Certified device, it won’t have a deregistration code. If this is the case, or if you cannot access the deregistration code on your newer-generation DivX Certified device, then you can chose to delete the device from your DivX Account. I know I should have a deregistration code but I simply can’t find it. What can I do?
If you have a newer-generation DivX Certified device and simply can’t find its deregistration code, but you want to deregister your device, try checking in the user manual provided by the manufacturer for the location of the DivX VOD section in your device’s menu. Exact locations can vary from one model to another, but your manufacturer should be able to provide more details on how to find this. If you still have no luck, or if you have any other questions about deregistering a device, you can contact DivX Customer Support.
Is there a difference between deleting and deregistering a DivX Certified device?
The big difference is that you’re only permitted to perform one device deletion per year and three for the lifetime of your DivX user account. So if you want to remove a device from your DivX VOD Manager in order to make room for another one, the best choice is to deregister the device. But, if you own an older-generation DivX Certified device model that does not have a deregistration code, or you simply can’t find your device’s deregistration code, you can choose to delete the device. Remember, you are only permitted to perform one device deletion per year and three for the lifetime of your DivX user account.
