What type of files does the DivX Mobile player support for casting?
There are no restrictions for casting, but playback will depend on what your cast device is capable of supporting. If your cast device does not support a particular format, we recommend to use DivX Media Server to transcode the video on the fly.
How do I play my videos with DivX Mobile?
If your videos are stored on your phone, select the “My Videos” option. This will display all the videos stored on your phone. If your videos are stored on your computer, select the “Media Servers” option and choose the DivX Media Server installed on your computer. This will display all shared videos from that computer.
Once you locate the video you want to watch, select “Play on Phone” to play the videos on your phone.
How do I cast videos from DivX Mobile to my TV?
First make sure that you are connected to the same WiFi network as your cast device (e.g. your connected TV, Chromecast, Apple TV, etc.). You can verify this by selecting the cast button on the upper right hand corner of the app and choosing the cast device.
Once you are connected, select a video you would like to view. A pop-up should appear asking where you would like to view the video. Choose “cast”.
How do I play videos and photos from my cloud storage accounts?
Connecting your Dropbox or Google Drive accounts will allow quick access to videos you’ve stored in the cloud. Instead of downloading the Dropbox or Google Drive apps separately, you may access them through DivX Mobile. All videos accessed from your cloud storage accounts will be downloaded to the phone and can be accessed via the “Downloads” option.
Why should I install DivX Media Server?
The DivX Media Server allows you convenient access to shared videos and photos on your computer, directly on your mobile phone. This is done without wires or cables, you just have to ensure both devices are on the same WiFi network.
Additionally, the DivX Media Server allows for easy transcode-on-the-fly of your videos. Learn more about transcode-on-the-fly here.
How do I enable the Media Server in the DivX Player?
DivX Media Server comes built into DivX Player, so no additional download is necessary. To turn on DivX Media Server, open DivX Player, access the DivX Media Server settings, and select “Turn Sharing On”.
The DivX Media Server settings can be accessed by selecting the DMS icon on the bottom right of the Player controls.
Does DivX Mobile work with any DLNA server?
DivX Mobile will work with any media server running on your same WiFi network. Use the “Media Server” option to access the list of connected media servers available.
How do I download videos on DivX Mobile?
Select a video you would like to view. A pop-up will appear with options on what to do. Choose “Download” and your videos will begin downloading to your phone. All downloaded videos can be accessed via the “Download” option in the menu.
How do I offload videos from my phone to a computer or cloud storage?
DivX Mobile uploads videos to your destination of choice in it’s original format without any compression. This is a great option if you are looking to free up space on your phone. Once the upload is complete, you can delete the video on your phone using the “delete” option.
To begin uploading, select the video you would like to upload. A pop-up will appear with options on what to do. Choose “Upload” and select the destination of where you would like to send that video. You may choose to upload the video to a cloud storage account, or to a computer running DivX Media Server. Your videos will begin uploading to your destination of choice.
Where can I find my uploaded videos on the computer?
Videos that have been uploaded to DivX Media Server on a computer can be found in your “DivX Movies” folder and in “Camera Uploads”.
What is transcoding on the fly?
Transcoding is the process of manipulating video into a new format. This is done via the decoding and re-encoding of the video’s properties. There are many reasons a video will need to be transcoded, for example to make it compatible for playback on a cast device. A video may not be supported by your cast device due to the resolution, codec, bitrate or container. Transcoding the video allows a seamless experience when casting to ensure that any video will work with any device you are casting to.
To avoid playback errors, we recommend to enable transcoding-on-the-fly so that the video is automatically delivered in a format that your cast device can support. When enabled, DivX Mobile will communicate with DivX Media Server to offload the video to a computer for transcoding.
How do I setup transcoding on the fly?
To set up transcoding-on-the-fly, you must have DivX Media Server installed on a computer (it’s free and available here). We recommend that for transcoding HD video, your computer has at least the following specifications:
- CPU: Intel® Core™ i7
- RAM: 16GB
DivX Media Server can be downloaded for free on your PC or Mac from www.divx.com. For help setting up DivX Media Server on your PC or Mac please refer to the above FAQ title “How do I enable the Media Server in the DivX Player?”
Why is DivX Media Server required for transcode-on-the-fly?
DivX Media Server works in tandem with the DivX Mobile app to transcode the videos that you choose to cast. The media server is what actually does the heavy lifting of transcoding video so that it can be rendered on your cast device without any errors. This ensures the intensive job of transcoding is done on a more powerful machine and that you can continue using your phone while the job is happening.
You must turn on DivX Media Server on a computer in order to utilize the transcode-on-the-fly setting in the DivX Mobile app.
What happens if I have more than one DivX Media Server on my network?
If more than one media server is on the network, DivX Mobile will show all media severs available and prompt for selection of the media server you want to use.
Why don’t I see my cast device listed?
Make sure that your phone and the cast device are connected to the same WiFi network. Try re-starting the cast device. If your device is DLNA compatible, it must be a DLNA Renderer to support casting. You can find out what type of DLNA your device supports by visiting:
Also, verify that your cast device is officially supported by DivX Mobile.
What devices are supported for casting?
The following cast devices are supported:
- Smart TVs with DLNA Renderer or GoogleCast support
- Roku 3, Roku 4, Roku Stick

- Apple TV 3 & 4
